Helping People Navigate Life

Peter Watson, MA, LMHCA

My Story
I don’t always stand next to trees but when I do, I like to smile and tell my story. After spending the last several years working as a high school teacher, I sensed it was time to make a change. With a diverse background and a penchant for unique experiences, I was unsure of which direction to take. I sought the wisdom of friends and family members and the overwhelming feedback I received was to pursue counseling. And so, here I am. A connoisseur of deep thoughts and a curator of mental well-being, I enjoy shaping minds and soothing troubled souls with theological wisdom, existential insight, and paradoxical humor.

I have been married for over 25 years to the most amazing woman. She is talented, adventurous, beautiful, and goofy. Together we have three grown children. I still enjoy pushing myself on the field of competition and when able, I love to travel and experience new cultures. In my down time I enjoy working in my yard, reading, and sampling craft beer with friends
My Education & Experience
I have a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the Townsend Institute at Concordia University Irvine, a Master of Arts in Historical Theology from Westminster Seminary California, and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Western Washington University. I’m currently licensed in the state of Washington and currently support clients via telehealth.
My Approach to Therapy
I hold a Christian worldview (beautiful but broken) and take a psychodynamic approach to mental and emotional distress. Working from an existential framework, my goal is to help the client find meaning in the midst of chaos. My therapeutic approach is client-centered, meaning I’m deeply interested in how you experience the world in which you exist. I firmly believe that people are wounded in relationship and are therefore healed in relationship. My style tends to be pragmatic, but relational. I’m curious, humorous, and perceptive. Sessions will consist of processing significant events and feelings in a way that helps the client cultivate their desire and capacity for wellbeing.
